Suggestions for Using this Booklet
For this meeting you will need to choose a book to read to the troop. You can also play a readaloud video from Youtube. We've provided two below.
Page 1
Read a book about being friendly and/or helpful. Here's a few of our favorites. Discuss with the girls the different ways the characters were helpful or friendly. Have the girls draw a picture of what happened in the story.
Page 2
Talk about Community Helpers. There are people that help others for a living. Discuss the different types like:
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Policemen
- Firemen
- Crossing guards
- Mail carriers
- Teachers
Have the girls write and draw one of their favorite community helpers.
Page 3
Now we'll ask the girls how they think they can help others. In each picture, the girls should think of how they could help either the indiviudal or their parents. Here are some answers in case the girls get stuck:
1) Ask the person if they're ok. Give them a tissue.
2) Clean up the spill
3) Help an older person rake leaves
4) Help your parents unload the dishwasher
5) Go food shopping with a parent and help
6) Help fold and put away laundry

Lastly, girls will write down how they will practice being friendly and helpful to others. Share with the troop when done!
