Suggestions for Using this Booklet

For this meeting we set up the booklet so that you do not need a computer. However, if you're able, we've added additional online resources to supplement the booklet.

One of the best coding resources for kids is Code.org. We recommend introducing the kids to this site as the fun and engaging lessons will get them hooked on coding!

Pages 1-2: Algorithms

If you want to supplement this with hands on activities, have the girls go to code.org and play lessons 1, 2, and 3. These will get the girls familiar with coding with scratch and understanding algorithms.

Page 4: Simplify Algorithms with Loops

Visit Code.org, complete the first Loops lesson to better understand how loops can simplify your algorithms.

Pages 5 and 6: Events

The Dance Party lesson on Code.org  will help girls understand how events can trigger certain actions.

Pages 7-9

If you want to supplement some information about our Famous Female Computer Scientists, here are some videos about the 4 women we mention in the book. Either watch beforehand to add additional facts about these great women, or play one/some of them for the troop.

Ada Lovelace

Annie Easely

Grace Hopper

Katherine Johnson
