Suggestions for Using this Booklet

Pages 1

To start off this badge, we have the girls reflect upon what makes us different and unique. Have them share how we are different from our families members, from our friends, and others.

You can do an exercise exploring differences and similarities like the one found for free here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Social-Skills-Accepting-Differences-4562828?st=5c94c4fd7cc7c30c530a3bda2a5ab279

Some ideas for differences/similarities are:

- height

- age

- religion

- hobbies

- sports played

- family size

- hair color

Next the girls reflect on what makes them unique. Have them draw themselves on the left side and describe themselves on the right side. Have them think about what they like about themselves! Celebrate how there's only one of them and their traits are unique!

Get the body moving in page 3. Have the girls work in groups or you can have the troop vote on picking three exercises. Then have the girls complete 3 sets of 10 for each exercise chosen.

Next we focus on listening to our bodies. Being aware of how our bodies feel is important to keeping it healthy.

On the left have the girls choose the words that match how they felt after the exercises.

Ont he right, have them reflect on which was the hardest, easiest, and favorite exercise.

Page 5

We delve deeper into listening to our bodies and how they feel in this page. We go through some common feelings kids feel. Have them think about a time they felt a certain way described. Then have them think about the reasons why they may feel that way and what could make them feel better.

When we get nervous or sad, it’s sometimes helpful to look at something that makes us smile. A “box of sunshine” is a package filled with yellow things, like the sun. You can also just put in items that bring joy, not necessarily yellow items.

Have the girls think about the things that make them feel good about themselves and cheer them up. Draw a picture of the items or write it down.

Watch a video about different people that help us keep our bodies in working order. Then you can match the specialist with each body part. Below is a very simple overview of a few types of specialists.
